The Conditional Release Program provides comprehensive treatment and case management to clients who have been found 'not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect' and who are appropriate for community-based services. Clients are committed by the Court to the Department of Health and Family Services (DHFS), State of Wisconsin, for treatment. Through a contract between DHFS and the MHCDC, that responsibility belongs to the Conditional Release Program. Treatment plans are developed, approved by the court and implemented which may involve both MHC and non-MHC agencies. At the Court's request, the Conditional Release Program also bears responsibility for recommending in-patient versus out-patient treatment. The Conditional Release Program is also a resource for the community with regard to information about the "NGI" law and its nuances, as well as the range of services, legal implications, and resources. |

| The Mental Health Center operates five state certified Community Support Program teams located at four separate sites. Each team has its own emphasis and program adaptations based on the special needs and preferences of its consumers. For example, Community Treatment Alternatives diverts people from the Dane County Jail and serves conditionally released clients. |
